What’s the best time to visit Morocco?

Morocco is a popular destination among tourists, known for its beautiful beaches, vast desert, unbelievable food, and unique culture. But what’s the best time to visit Morocco? In our opinion, the best time to visit Morocco for tourists is the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Tourists should avoid the summer, and this is why.

 

Why are spring, fall and winter the best times to visit Morocco?

This may not come as a surprise for many, but Morocco is freaking hot. Like, really, really hot. The average temperature in the summer is well into the 90s, sometimes into the 100s (Fahrenheit). Of course, this will vary quite a bit across the country, as will the humidity which will significantly affect the comfort factor of the weather. But no matter where you go in the country, the odds are you will be sweating profusely for much of the year.

 

The weather is still hot throughout the year even in spring, winter and fall. But, the evenings in the winter do get a bit chilly during the winter month. Even during the day, however, the temperatures are still in the 60s, which is more than comfortable for the majority of people. In fact, some days it still gets downright scorching even in the dead middle of winter (I use the term winter here very loosely)! Rain is somewhat common in winter, but rarely is there a torrential downpour nor is it a problem for sightseeing.

 

So how is it visiting Morocco in the Summer?

If you don’t mind extreme heat, it’s probably a good time to visit. I will warn you, however, that assuming things will be air-conditioned is a mistake. Air conditioning is not standard here. Not even in vehicles, where the temperatures soar.

 

The other issue is that many people don’t have fans, as many Moroccans believe that fans and air circulation will make you sick. Many of the buildings are constructed so that they manage to stave off much of the heat, but it only does so much. The people of Morocco are accustomed to the heat and will likely not notice nor be as concerned with the sweltering weather as outsiders may be.

 

What about tourist activities in the off-seasons?

There is no real “off-season” when it comes to the best time to visit Morocco as far as tourism goes. Activities are still running, tours are still operational, and there’s still plenty to do and see, even outside of summer months. Many people in morocco rely on tourism for their livelihood, and Will be happy to accommodate you no matter when you decide to visit.

 

We even took a hot air balloon trip outside of Marrakesh in January! There really is no tourism off-season, which is one of the great things about Morocco. It’s such a bummer to visit a place during its non-tourism months and find it completely desolate, but you won’t have this problem in Morocco.

 

Activities are available at all times of the year, and will likely be even more enjoyable without the blistering heat! In fact, we prefer to do the majority of our sightseeing in the off-season. But we still go to the beach and swim during summer.

 

Another reason summer isn’t the best time to visit Morocco: it’s crowded!

Like many places where people take their annual vacations, Morocco becomes somewhat of a madhouse during the peak tourism season. If you are anything like me and dislike massive crowds and long waits, this is another reason to avoid Morocco in the summer.

 

The absolute best time to visit Morocco is winter because the country is vibrantly green

During the months of December to about April, much of Morocco is unbelievably green. Rolling grass hills, lush trees, tons of healthy and thriving crops. Agriculture and farming are huge parts of the Moroccan economy, and in the winter/spring months, it is easy to see why. Driving through much of the country is dazzlingly green.
